Telangana Sets Up Bonus Scheme for Extra‑Shift Doctors

Hyderabad – Chief Minister K. Revant Reddy of Telangana announced a bonus scheme on Monday aimed at super‑specialty physicians ready to put in additional duty hours at public hospitals. The announcement was made after the inauguration of the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) in Santh Nagar.

Reddy disclosed that the construction of a new block for Usmania Hospital, the LB Nagar TIMS campus, and the upcoming super‑specialty hospitals in Alwal and Warangal will be completed by 9 December 2027. When finished, the state’s hospital bed count is projected to reach 10,000.

Each facility will have a dedicated director who will monitor day‑to‑day functioning and allocate budget for essential caregiver facilities. The chief minister emphasized that these TIMS institutions must be managed on par with corporate hospitals and urged health officials to provide financial incentives to doctors who volunteer for extended shifts.

Since taking office, the government claims to have accelerated the development of TIMS hospitals in Santh Nagar, LB Nagar, Alwal and Warangal, positioning the initiative as a countermeasure to the rising expenses of private medical care. TIMS is intended to bring corporate‑grade health services within reach of the economically disadvantaged.

Reddy highlighted that the administration has already spent ₹2,700 crore on the Aarogya Shri scheme and ₹2,526 crore via the Chief Minister Relief Fund, totaling ₹5,226 crore directed at poor‑health support. Over the past two years, the health sector has been allocated a cumulative ₹21,800 crore.

He also criticized the previous BRS government for not constructing a new building for the dilapidated Usmania Hospital and accused the KCR government of abandoning the TIMS and Warangal projects after only laying foundations.
