Telangana Govt Accused of Treating Public Land Like Real Estate

A senior BRS leader has slammed the Telangana government for attempting to auction a plot of land that is classified as heritage property.

In a letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, T. Harish Rao demanded an urgent cancellation of the auction slated for 10.63 acres in Raydurg’s Panmaktha village.

He pointed out that Survey No. 83/1 was listed as a heritage zone under Government Order 4 dated 2 January 2003, and that the government is proceeding without establishing clear legal ownership.

Rao accused the state of “treating public property as commercial real‑estate,” questioning whether the chief minister is acting as a public servant or a property dealer.

He also referenced a 2020 High Court petition filed during his time in opposition, which sought to safeguard the land from third‑party interests.

The disputed 6.2‑acre segment was previously auctioned for a staggering ₹237 crore per acre after the State Bank of India claimed title, a matter still pending adjudication.

Despite these controversies, the current proposal splits the land into two parcels—5.25 acres and 5.38 acres—and pushes ahead with the auction.

Claims on the property also come from the Waqf Board and the religious institution Jamia Nizamia, adding further complexity to the case.
