Telangana expands welfare schemes for Dalit and tribal students
The Telangana government announced an expansion of its welfare initiatives targeting Dalit and tribal students across the state. Under the scheme, more than 2.75 million learners from nursery to class 12 will receive free breakfast, aiming to improve nutrition and academic performance.
In addition to food support, the administration is providing high‑quality rice and fortified meals to households identified under the Indiramma programme. The chief minister highlighted that these measures are part of a broader strategy to uplift historically disadvantaged groups and to fulfill promises made by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi regarding land allocation and social justice.
Education officials were instructed to monitor attendance, learning outcomes, and health indicators to ensure that the interventions translate into tangible improvements for students from SC and ST backgrounds.
