Technical Glitches and Underutilisation, Not Coal Shortage, Cause Punjab's Energy Woes

According to officials, the decline in electricity generation in Punjab stems from under‑utilisation of thermal capacity and recurring technical glitches at independent power producers, not from a lack of coal. Data shows that over the past three days, Nabhapur Power Limited (Rajpura) consumed an average of 4.3 rek tonnes per day while receiving about 5 rek tonnes, and Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (Mansa) used roughly 3.8 rek tonnes per day against a supply of 5 rek tonnes. Since September 2026, average daily supplies have been 4.9 rek (Nabhapur) and 4.1 rek (Talwandi), both exceeding consumption, confirming adequate coal availability.
