Teacher’s Day in Gorakhpur: Yogi recognises 81 educators for nation‑building work

Gorakhpur, September 5 – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gathered a large audience of educators at the Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath Premises to celebrate Teacher’s Day and honour 81 teachers from basic and secondary education departments. The event highlighted the role of teachers as carriers of national transformation.

Yogi began by stating that education and cultural values are the twin pillars that empower any nation. He emphasized that teachers are not merely instructors; they are architects of responsible citizenship.

The chief minister contrasted the current climate with the pre‑2017 scenario, when the state’s education sector was plagued by allegations of cheating on contracts and a widespread perception of inadequacy. He affirmed that the last nine and a half years have seen a complete turnaround, with Uttar Pradesh now enjoying respect across the country.

Law and order, he added, have also seen a marked shift. Curfews and frequent riots that once disrupted daily life have largely disappeared. The orderly conduct of Janmashtami festivities across police stations and neighborhoods was cited as a recent example of this progress.

Invoking India’s long tradition of revering knowledge, Yogi referenced Vasant Panchami and Guru Purnima as cultural touchstones that connect the present generation with ancient wisdom. He described Teacher’s Day as a moment for educators to align themselves with this heritage.

In a departure from usual ceremony protocol, Yogi invited all 81 honoured teachers onto the stage, even though prior information suggested only ten would appear. He explained that each teacher had travelled from different districts, and it was essential to acknowledge each one publicly.

He concluded by urging teachers to focus on both academic learning and character formation, fostering a sense of duty toward the nation among their students.
