Tarun Chugh urges swift justice after deadly incidents at Durga Puja and Shitala Mata
On October 18, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh addressed the nation after two grievous accidents at religious gatherings. The first occurred at the Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata, where a sudden crush led to 19 fatalities. The second took place near the Shitala Mata temple in Gwalior, causing several injuries.
Chugh conveyed his condolences, wishing peace to the departed souls and a quick recovery for the wounded. He praised the prompt response of both central and state governments, stating that they are steadfastly supporting the bereaved families with medical aid and other relief measures.
The leader underlined the readiness of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to provide all necessary assistance and reported that Home Minister Amit Shah was on the ground in Kolkata meeting affected relatives. Chugh called for “decisive and strict” legal action against any individuals found responsible, emphasizing the need for preventive steps to avoid future calamities.
He also reminded citizens that the safety of devotees must be a priority and urged authorities to implement robust crowd‑management protocols at all large‑scale religious events.
