Tarun Chugh accuses Punjab finance minister of shielding drug mafias

Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Tarun Chugh delivered a scathing critique of Punjab’s law‑and‑order situation. He alleged that the state’s finance minister is behaving like a lawyer for the drug mafia, legitimising their activities and defending drug dealers. Chugh pointed out that regular grenade attacks on police stations and targeted killings of anti‑drug crusaders, such as Parvinder Singh Jhota, demonstrate a climate of impunity. He recalled the recent suicide of Gulzar Singh, who faced intimidation after raising concerns about illegal firearm sales. Chugh warned that without immediate intervention, the drug network will continue to thrive under political protection.
