Tamil Nadu Social Justice Drive Targets Caste Indicators on Public Signage

The Social Justice Department has asked the Chennai Corporation to conduct a thorough audit of all public infrastructure. The department’s instructions follow a state‑level vigilance committee’s recommendation to eliminate caste markers from roads, pathways, reservoirs and other civic assets. Proposals for new names will undergo a formal approval process before any changes are made official. The review will also consider suggestions to honour reformers such as Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and M. Singaravelar.
