Tamil Nadu Government Vows Faster Disbursement of Increased Women’s Assistance

Chennai, July 5 – The Tamil Nadu government has signaled an accelerated timeline for raising the monthly aid given to women from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500. Minister Jagathiswari of the Social Welfare and Women’s Rights portfolio stated that the revision is already in the pipeline and will soon reach all qualified beneficiaries.

Speaking at an eye‑check camp organised on the occasion of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s birthday, she reiterated the administration’s dedication to fulfilling its electoral commitments and ensuring that every eligible woman benefits from welfare schemes.

Jagathiswari emphasized that the DMK government operates solely for the public good and reiterated the Chief Minister’s zero‑tolerance stance on corruption, declaring, “There will be no percent of corruption in this government.”

The minister called on citizens to report any instances of officials demanding bribes for services. She promised that verified complaints would trigger immediate and severe action against the offending officer.

The existing Women’s Assistance Initiative currently provides a monthly allowance of ₹1,000 to eligible women. The proposed increase to ₹2,500 is intended to broaden the safety net and improve financial independence for women across the state.

The welfare department has recently received a substantial number of new applications from women who were unable to secure benefits under the previous administration. While some submissions were found to be duplicate, many genuine applicants had been inadvertently omitted.

A rigorous verification exercise is underway to identify duplicate entries, rectify errors, and guarantee that only legitimate beneficiaries receive the enhanced assistance. Transparency and inclusivity remain the guiding principles of the scheme’s rollout.

Jagathiswari concluded by urging the public to remain patient as verification and other formalities are completed. Once the process is finalized, the increased ₹2,500 assistance will be released as pledged.
