Floods and Fatalities Reported After Heavy Rains Hit Tamil Nadu

The heavy rains that began on September 15 have already caused several incidents across Tamil Nadu. In Perambalur district, sudden flooding on the Pachamalai hills trapped a group of locals near Adakkampatti village. Rising water blocked the return path and rescue teams had to use ropes to bring the villagers to safety.

Two separate lightning strikes claimed lives. A 25‑year‑old construction worker in Dindigul district was killed while working on a borewell near Reddiyarchatram. In Tenkasi district, a mason named Kasirajan suffered a fatal electrocution at a construction site in Krishnapuram during light rain.

In Madurai, a large tree uprooted by the downpour fell onto an electricity pole near Sholavandan, forcing the power utility to shut off supply. The outage lasted more than two hours until the fallen trunk could be cleared, leaving residents without electricity.

Roads in Virudhunagar became water‑logged, and several shops reported water ingress, disrupting daily business. Meanwhile, moderate rain in Theni offered relief to farmers, cooling temperatures in Codikannal and surrounding areas.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged the public to report any emergency situations immediately.
