Tamil Nadu Education Department Warns Against Coaching in Vacation

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has warned that any special classes held during the term‑exam vacation will be treated as a violation of official policy. The warning, circulated on September 24, places the onus on head teachers to enforce the prohibition and accept full accountability for any incident arising from unauthorized sessions.

The term examinations for the state syllabus conclude on September 25, after which schools are closed for a holiday that lasts until October 4. The department wants to ensure that students receive a proper break and are not compelled to attend additional coaching during this interval.

Subject teachers are to guide students on self‑study, share assignment answer sheets, and suggest a daily subject focus. Travel during the vacation is also discouraged to keep the focus on rest and personal preparation.

By curbing extra classes, the department hopes to reduce examination pressure, especially for tenth and twelfth‑standard pupils, and to keep government schools free from commercial coaching practices.
