Swami Vivekananda Monument Opening Ceremony to Feature Prayer, Planting and Documentary
The Swami Vivekananda monument at Ramakrishna Ashram, Mysore, will be formally opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1. The ceremony begins with a traditional puja at the Shiva temple situated within the memorial complex, after which the Prime Minister will plant a bel‑leaf sapling, symbolising growth and continuity.
A floral homage will be placed at Vivekananda’s statue in the very chamber where the philosopher lodged during his 1892 stay in Mysore. The Prime Minister will then cut the ceremonial ribbon, marking the official launch of the site. A short documentary, produced on the occasion, will be screened on the third floor of an affiliated school, providing visitors with a concise overview of Vivekananda’s life and teachings.
