Suspect Derek Krasta Evades Arrest After Kundapur Shooting
Kundapur, Karnataka – A man identified as Derek Krasta remains on the run after being accused of murdering local entrepreneur Ivan Richard Mascreenhass outside the Holy Rosary Church on Friday morning.
Police reports indicate that Krasta initiated a phone conversation with Mascreenhass on the night of July 30, pressing the businessman for payment on outstanding invoices tied to his shrimp‑supply operations. The discussion escalated, culminating in Krasta’s challenge for Mascreenhass to meet him alone in the town.
Mascreenhass complied, arriving with a companion and parking his car on the concrete stretch of Church Road. At about 3:15 a.m., Krasta arrived in a distinct black‑and‑red Mahindra Thar SUV, halted opposite the victim’s vehicle, and opened fire as Mascreenhass stepped out.
Multiple bullet wounds to the victim’s lower back and leg caused rapid blood loss, and he succumbed before emergency services could intervene. The female passenger later identified Krasta, providing a breakthrough for investigators.
The Udipi police chief, along with senior officers, visited the crime scene and have deployed three specialized teams to track down the fugitive. The case is registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
