Survey Park Hostel Scandal: Teacher Accused of Luring Girls for Sexual Assault

An escalating scandal has emerged from the Survey Park neighbourhood of Kolkata after a martial‑arts instructor was accused of sexually assaulting under‑age girls residing in an NGO hostel. The alleged perpetrator, identified as Prosenjit Das, allegedly exploited his dual role as treasurer and coach to gain the trust of the children.

The hostel, situated in South Kolkata, hosts several minor girls who attend both academic and extracurricular programs. As part of the NGO’s effort to encourage sports participation, Das taught karate and kung fu to the residents. However, victims allege that he misused the training sessions to make unwanted physical contact.

Further accusations claim that Das would isolate selected students by inviting them to a quiet corner of the hostel, promising specialized instruction. Once alone, he is said to have carried out sexual assaults, threatening the girls if they tried to resist or report the incidents.

One survivor, a teenager from the Ravindra Sarovar area whose parents are separated, described a prolonged period of exploitation that left her suffering from panic attacks. Her condition was eventually noticed by another staff member, who sensitively probed the cause and facilitated her disclosure to the Child Welfare Committee.

Following the CWC’s involvement, Kolkata police opened a case, transferred it to the Survey Park jurisdiction, and arrested Das. The investigation continues, with authorities aiming to uncover the full extent of the alleged misconduct and to ensure the safety of all children under the NGO’s care.
