Surasamhara Ritual Scheduled for Oct 20, Authorities Keep Vigilance
The centerpiece of this year's Dussehra celebrations, the "Surasamhara" ritual, is set to take place on the night of October 20 at the Kulashekarappattinam Mutharamman Temple. Police have announced that heightened vigilance will continue until the ceremony concludes.
A total of 1,000 officers, drawn from Madurai, Ramnathpuram, Virudhunagar, Shivganga, Kanyakumari and Thuthukudi districts, remain on duty around the temple grounds. Senior Superintendent Shivprasad leads the force, assisted by two fellow superintendents, an assistant superintendent, five deputy superintendents and a group of 32 inspectors and sub‑inspectors.
Additional security measures include 80 CCTV cameras monitoring key locations, and fifty plain‑clothed officers circulating among devotees to quickly identify any disturbances. The police department has reiterated its commitment to protect pilgrims, maintain public order, and pursue any illegal activity with strict penalties.
The upcoming "Surasamhara" will bring the Dussehra festivities to a dramatic close, drawing thousands of worshippers to witness the traditional rites.
