Supreme Court guidelines allow variable eco‑sensitive zone around Kaziranga, says Assam chief minister

According to the chief minister, the Supreme Court has clarified that a one‑size‑fits‑all 10 km eco‑sensitive zone is not mandatory for every protected area.

The court's guidance permits the state to set a zone between 1 and 3 km for Kaziranga, based on detailed assessments of ecological sensitivity and human settlement patterns.

Sarma emphasized that the government will follow the court's framework, aiming to protect wildlife while preventing unnecessary hardship for communities that have developed around the park over decades.
