Supaul Tragedy: Fatal Collision Claims Five Lives Amid Night Worship

A solemn incident occurred late Tuesday night in Supaul district when a speeding four‑wheel vehicle struck a gathering of devotees performing kirtan for the Jhulan Puja near the Bajrangbali Temple on National Highway 327E. The uncontrolled vehicle plowed through the crowd, killing five men – Tilai Das, 65; Raju Das, 50; Surendra Yadav, 45; Bhuvaneshwari “Koyli” Yadav; and Krishna Mohan Sah – all hailing from Katia Panchayat. Another worshipper, Ramchandra Yadav, sustained critical injuries and was taken to a hospital. After the impact, the vehicle traveled about 50 metres before colliding with a shop along the road. Law enforcement from Pipra police station secured the scene, confiscated the vehicle and launched an investigation. The district collector and senior police officials visited the hospital to assess the situation. Residents voiced fury over illegal roadside stalls and encroachment that exacerbate traffic hazards, demanding immediate clearance of the highway’s edge.
