Sukesh Chandrashekhar's Appeal Challenged Over Procedural Grounds

The Delhi High Court is currently reviewing the procedural validity of a petition lodged by convicted fraudster Sukesh Chandrashekhar. After the lower court handed down an eight‑year sentence for allegedly masquerading as a Supreme Court judge, Sukesh attempted to overturn the decision by filing a new petition.

The Delhi Police have contested the petition, emphasizing that the appropriate remedy after a conviction is to file an appeal, not to re‑open the case through a fresh application. Their submission has prompted the High Court to issue a notice on whether the petition can be maintained.

Details of the incident reveal that in 2017, while under police custody, Sukesh used a police officer’s mobile to call Judge Poonam Chaudhary. The caller first claimed to be a private secretary to a Supreme Court judge and later pretended to be a judge, trying to pressure the judge for bail.

Judge Chaudhary verified the claims with the Supreme Court, found them false, and reported the matter, leading to a police probe and the eventual filing of charges that resulted in the eight‑year imprisonment.
