Students Receive Duplicate Registration Numbers from Illegal Colleges, Council Alerts Authorities

Recent findings by the West Bengal Homoeopathic Medicine Council indicate that a number of graduates from unrecognised homeopathy colleges are being supplied with duplicate registration numbers.

These numbers, according to the council, replicate those already assigned to legitimate, fully‑registered homoeopathic doctors. The duplication undermines the credibility of the professional register and opens the door for unqualified individuals to open clinics under false pretences.

The council highlighted that the illegal issuance is most prevalent in a cluster of colleges operating in Kuch Bihar, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and West Midnapore. Many of these colleges sprang up during the previous Trinamool Congress administration and have never obtained approval from either the state council or the National Homoeopathy Commission.

In a letter to Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agrawal, the council urged immediate enforcement of existing statutes, confiscation of fraudulent registration certificates, and punishment of those facilitating the practice. The council also recommended that patients verify a doctor's credentials through the official "Homoeopathic Practitioners List" available on the council’s website.

The warning aims to protect public health, preserve the integrity of the profession, and ensure that only duly qualified practitioners are permitted to treat patients.
