Students’ FIRs and Exam Scandals Prompt Adjournment Motion in Lok Sabha

The Lok Sabha witnessed a rare procedural demand on July 21 when Congress MPs Hibi Eden and Manickam Tagore B submitted a notice seeking adjournment of the day’s agenda. The request centers on two interlinked crises: the NEET‑UG 2026 paper leak that involved NTA officials and the subsequent filing of FIRs against demonstrators protesting the incident in Delhi.

According to the MPs, the leak forced the cancellation of the original NEET‑UG test and a costly re‑examination, while the UGC‑NET exam also suffered from similar irregularities. Both events have shaken confidence in India’s national testing framework and, according to reports, have been linked to a spate of student suicides.

Eden and Tagore called for the immediate resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, labeling his continued tenure as a moral failure. They also demanded a parliamentary debate on the government’s inability to protect students’ academic futures, a swift withdrawal of all FIRs against peaceful protesters, and a guarantee that police will not employ excessive force or legal intimidation against future demonstrations.

The MPs’ motion reflects a broader call for transparency, accountability, and structural reform within the Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency.
