Students Demand Transparency as Exam Paper Leaks Continue

Jaipur, July 18 – The ongoing hunger strike by environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk has brought renewed focus on a separate wave of student protests nationwide. Students are demanding greater transparency, accountability and swift action against recurring exam paper leaks that undermine the integrity of competitive examinations.

Congress leader Sanchin Pilot linked the two movements, stating that the same government that resorted to forced removal of a peaceful protester is also failing to protect the academic future of India's youth. He pointed to the recent "Students' Echo" campaign, a Congress‑initiated, country‑wide drive aimed at amplifying student concerns.

Pilot cited the CBI investigation into the NEET paper leak, questioning why few arrests have been made and why no senior officials have been held responsible. He argued that political will to enforce accountability is missing, allowing malpractice to persist.

The leader urged the Union Education Ministry to adopt stringent measures, including real‑time monitoring of question‑paper security, stricter penalties for offenders, and a transparent grievance redressal mechanism.

In his remarks, Pilot also criticized the central government's broader approach to dissent, accusing it of preferring suppression over dialogue. He called for an immediate review of policies that allow coercion against peaceful demonstrators, citing Wangchuk's case as a prime example.

The appeal coincides with mounting pressure from opposition parties, who have demanded the resignation of the Union Education Minister and a parliamentary debate on the issue before the upcoming session begins on July 20.
