Students demand exam transparency and jobs; police arrest several

Patna, August 4 – Thousands of college students gathered at JP Golambar on Tuesday, marching toward the chief minister's official residence to press for reforms in the state's recruitment and education systems.

Their demands listed a thorough investigation into reported exam irregularities, swift action on paper‑leak cases, the withdrawal of pending charges against activists arrested during previous protests, and the creation of adequate employment avenues for young graduates.

The rally intensified when participants tried to breach police‑set barricades at major intersections. Law‑enforcement officers responded with water‑cannon fire and detained a number of protestors, citing disruption of public order.

The blockage caused a brief traffic jam between JP Golambar and Dakhbangla Chowk, which was cleared after the police restored control. Women police personnel and a large contingent of officers were deployed along the route, equipped with crowd‑management tools.

Student leaders also highlighted the need for compensation for a wounded activist from the recent Siwan protest, the release of detained students, and tougher action against those responsible for any misconduct during the agitation.

Political support arrived from Bihar Congress state president Rajesh Ram and MP Pappu Yadav, who echoed the students' concerns and urged the central government to address paper‑leak and employment issues. Police officials reiterated that while democratic rights to protest are protected, breaking barricades or inciting violence is unlawful.

The authorities reported that the protest is now under control, with several students in police custody. The student unions warned of expanding the movement if their demands are not promptly met.
