Students Claim Authorities Used Darkening of Stadium and Harassment to Disperse Demonstration

Participants in the Jharkhand student protest said the police deliberately switched off the stadium lights and nearby street lamps to create a climate of fear. The operation, carried out by officers in civilian attire, was followed by a systematic collection of personal details—photos, names and mobile numbers—of every protester. According to the students, the police also threatened them with statements such as "Leave this place now," and hinted at physical force. An ambulance was positioned at the site late at night, with authorities claiming it was for any hunger‑strike participants who might need medical attention. However, after media personnel arrived to inquire, the ambulance crew left, and the police returned to the register to note names before departing around 3:30 am.
