Student Leader Declares ‘Day of Revolution’ Ahead of Planned Assembly Blockade

Ranchi’s student movement reached a new milestone on August 10, as Devendra Nath Mahto proclaimed the day a "revolutionary" turning point. After 17 days of a hunger strike protesting alleged paper‑leak fraud in recruitment exams, the group will attempt to blockade the state assembly on Monday.

Mahto, who began an indefinite satyagraha on August 2, said his health is slipping but his determination to expose the leak remains firm. “The pain caused by the leak overshadows my personal weakness,” he said, adding that medical checks showed a slight recovery after intravenous fluids corrected his low glucose levels.

The protest will see a massive influx of students to Ranchi, converging at the Jaypal Singh Mundua Stadium before marching peacefully toward the legislative complex at 10 a.m. Organisers have prepared a coordinated encirclement to pressure officials into launching a credible investigation.

Doctors confirmed that Mahto’s vital organs are functioning normally after the treatment, allowing him to continue leading the demonstration. The assembly siege is positioned as a non‑violent, constitutional expression of the students’ demand for justice and accountability.
