Student fee refund demand leads to police custody of senior BJP figures

The Telangana BJP staged a sit‑in outside the state secretariat on September 3, demanding that the government clear the pending fee‑reimbursement bundle for students across the state. Party president Ramachandra Rao and other senior leaders requested permission to present a petition to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, but were stopped at the gate by security forces. When a handful of activists attempted to breach the barrier, a minor clash ensued, prompting police to take Rao, MLA leader E. T. Maheshwar Reddy, MP D. K. Arun and additional party members into custody. Rao was shifted to Chickdapalli police station, while Arun was moved to Gandhi Nagar. From the station, Rao announced via social media that the party’s agitation will not cease until the full amount—estimated at around ₹15,000 crore—is released, claiming that the current delay affects roughly four lakh students.
