Storm warning issued for Telangana districts ahead of deep depression

The India Meteorological Department has issued a storm warning for several districts of Telangana, citing a low‑pressure system that formed over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday. The system is likely to intensify into a deep depression by mid‑week, prompting heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of the state.

According to the IMD, districts including Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadrachalam‑Kotagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda and Jangaon could experience substantial precipitation on September 24. The bulletin also warns of lightning activity and strong winds blowing at 50‑60 km per hour in these areas.

For the next three days—Sunday, Monday and Tuesday—the forecast calls for scattered heavy rain, occasional thunderstorms, and wind speeds of 40‑50 km/h in various parts of Telangana. The Hyderabad weather centre expects light to moderate showers with possible thunder on Sunday, followed by similar patterns on the subsequent days.

The originating low‑pressure zone was positioned over the northern Andaman Sea and eastern‑central Bay of Bengal at 08:30 GMT on Sunday. It is expected to travel west‑north‑west, possibly reaching the coastal belt of southern Andhra Pradesh and the north‑western Bay of Bengal by Wednesday, prolonging the adverse weather conditions.
