STF raids in South 24‑Parganas uncover extremist online networks

In a coordinated sweep on Sunday, West Bengal’s Special Task Force targeted the Bhanga and Biralpur zones of South 24‑Parganas, detaining Janadul Beg and Shafiq Sheikh. Both men are accused of creating and managing social‑media profiles that echoed Al‑Qaeda ideology, using the handles “Muglejam” and “Jihad Ki Sabibilla” to circulate hostile content against the Indian state. Police records show a prior grievance lodged at Nodakhali police post, which triggered the STF probe. Investigators claim the duo also attempted to expand their network by recruiting young individuals and seeking weaponry. This operation follows other recent STF actions, including the capture of a suspect linked to Pakistan’s ISI in East Bardhaman and the arrest of a Pakistani national in North 24‑Parganas.
