State Treasury Hits Revenue Loss Due to Tendering and Tax Collection Flaws

The latest Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit submitted to the Himachal Pradesh Assembly has revealed that flaws in online tendering, procurement, and tax collection have caused a substantial revenue shortfall for the state treasury. Former chief minister and opposition figure Jai Ram Thakur highlighted that the report identifies systemic issues that led to loss of revenue, citing mismanagement of e‑procurement and irregularities in tax collection as primary contributors. He accused the Sukhu administration of directing resources toward a select group of contractors, compromising the integrity of public spending. Thakur also pointed out that about ₹438 crore was spent without any budgetary allocation, while ₹673 crore earmarked for various schemes saw little to no expenditure. The findings call for urgent corrective measures and greater transparency in government financial operations.
