State Task Force Calls for Accelerated Mosquito Control After Spike in Vector‑Borne Diseases

A senior task‑force on vector‑borne disease prevention convened in Ranchi on July 30 to review alarming trends across Jharkhand. The meeting highlighted 16,728 malaria cases reported from January to June 2026, with the majority arising in the Singhbhum region. Additionally, June saw 77 dengue infections, 27 of which were from Ranchi district.

Task‑force members stressed that the surge demands an immediate upscale of mosquito‑control activities. Recommendations include intensified fogging operations, distribution of insecticide‑treated nets, regular elimination of breeding sites, and deployment of mobile surveillance units.

The health secretary underscored that effective disease control is a shared responsibility. Departments of rural development, panchayat raj, municipal governance, education, labour, and water‑sanitation have been instructed to align their programs with health objectives.

A parallel review of the lymphatic filariasis elimination effort was conducted. Officials directed that during mass drug administration campaigns, qualified health workers must supervise ingestion of medication to ensure compliance, and that follow‑up services for hydrocele surgeries and MMDP kit provisions be strengthened.
