State Support Boosts Bhujodi Artisans and International Trade

The Gujarat government’s Khadi, Village and Rural Industries Department, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has intensified support for Bhujodi’s handloom sector. Initiatives include financial incentives, design‑training programmes and facilitation of participation in national and overseas exhibitions. Weavers like Shyamji Vanakar note that invitations to showcase their work in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata have expanded market networks and led to direct orders from foreign buyers. Minister Naresh Patel highlighted recent openings of showrooms in Ahmedabad featuring handloom collections, confirming a surge in interest from both domestic and international customers. As a result, the village now records consistent export shipments to more than 18 countries, generating new sources of income for the weaving community while preserving a craft that dates back five hundred years.
