State Secures Gas‑Based 1,500 MW Amid Rising Demand

Tamil Nadu confirmed the purchase of 1,500 MW of gas‑based electricity for the evening peak period (6 p.m.–midnight) from 15 Oct to 31 Oct. Peak demand has surged to about 21,700 MW, a 30 % rise over the same period last year. The contract, priced at ~₹35 per unit, will raise daily electricity expenditure by ~₹5 crore and is expected to keep load‑shedding to a minimum.
