State Leaders and Villagers Attend Funeral of CM Hemant Soren’s Mother

A crowd of villagers, party cadres and senior officials gathered in Nemra on Thursday to bid farewell to Rupi Soren, mother of Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren. The chief minister performed the traditional lighting of the funeral pyre at Dhekhanala ghats, following Hindu rites.

The procession began after the body arrived from Ranchi at around 2 p.m. and proceeded through the streets of Nemra, where locals lined the route to offer flowers and prayers. The atmosphere was marked by solemn chants and the sound of conch shells.

Rupi Soren, who had been receiving treatment for heart disease and other ailments, died in a Ranchi hospital on Wednesday. Her passing prompted condolences from political leaders across the state, highlighting her role as a respected matriarch.

Given the expected turnout, police and district magistrates from Ramgarh and Hazaribagh deployed additional personnel to manage crowd control, secure the funeral venue and monitor traffic on adjoining roads.
