Maharashtra’s chief minister and senior cabinet members expressed deep concern over the reported beating of women doctors by a Shiv Sena councilor in a Mumbai hospital. They emphasized that any form of violence against medical personnel is intolerable.
The councilor, Ramesh Mhatre, has been detained and an FIR registered. The government promised to enforce the code of conduct for elected representatives and to pursue criminal charges against those found guilty.
The incident has drawn condemnation from across the political spectrum, with opposition parties demanding that the councillor be stripped of his position and barred from public office in addition to legal repercussions.
