State Expands Affordable Food Scheme to Construction Sites Across 28 Districts

Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated 101 new Worker Annapurna food points on Friday, marking a significant scale‑up of the state’s low‑cost meal initiative. The rollout, part of the "Seva Sankalp" campaign, began in Ahmedabad's Chanakyapuri and Ghatlodia regions and now brings the total number of centres to 372 across 28 districts.

The programme, overseen by the Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department, supplies cooked meals at a token price of Rs 5, featuring roti, vegetables, dal, rice, pickles, chilli and jaggery, with weekly sweets like sukhdi or sheera. To date, more than five crore meals have been served.

Authorities plan to push the service further by delivering food directly to construction sites, partnering with vendors to reach workplaces where at least fifty labourers are present. This move is expected to add around 10,000 meals to the daily distribution, raising the total to approximately 45,000.
