State emergency centre audit shows Gujarat's proactive monsoon response
Gandhinagar – Late Friday night, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel paid a surprise call on the State Emergency Operations Centre to evaluate the state's monsoon preparedness after the meteorological service flagged a potential red alert across ten districts.
During the audit, Patel directed district collectors to stay on high alert and to keep all emergency mechanisms operational. The government has placed two army detachments on standby in Ahmedabad, Navsari and Surat, while IAF helicopters are ready in Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Vadodara and Pune for immediate deployment.
Authorities have already shifted more than 16,500 inhabitants from flood‑vulnerable locations to safer areas, and rescue teams have saved 41 people from hazardous conditions. Rainfall has been recorded in 201 talukas, accounting for 61.5% of the total expected monsoon rainfall.
Key officials present included the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue), the CEO of the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority and the Relief Commissioner, all of whom underscored the necessity for ongoing alertness.
