State and Centre Collaborate to Cover 1,950 Diseases in West Bengal

In a coordinated effort between New Delhi and the Kolkata administration, the Ayushman Bharat health‑insurance scheme was activated in West Bengal on 16 August. The scheme now lists 1,950 medical conditions eligible for cashless treatment, expanding the earlier list of 1,700 ailments. It also reinstates coverage for knee‑joint replacement surgery, which was previously halted under the Health Saathi programme.
