State Agri Minister Updates on Drought Crisis and Expected Central Help
Mumbai, October 11 – Maharashtra’s Agriculture Minister Dattatraya Bhanare told reporters that the central government’s field team has confirmed the seriousness of the ongoing drought. The team examined the extent of water scarcity and the impact on crop production, echoing concerns raised in the state’s recent report.
The report, compiled by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, details the hardships endured by farmers, including loss of harvest, cash flow problems, and rising debt. The central delegation has accepted the report and is reportedly working on a financial relief scheme.
Minister Bhanare highlighted that the chief minister’s direct presentation to the central officials emphasized the immediacy of the need. He said the Union government’s positive response gives hope that a relief package will be unveiled soon.
Both Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Home Minister Amit Shah have signalled their readiness to provide “all possible assistance,” according to the minister’s interview. The state continues to press for quick disbursement to mitigate the drought’s impact on Maharashtra’s agricultural sector.
