Tamil Nadu’s political arena is buzzing as CM M.K. Stalin fulfills a key promise with Rs 5,000 annual assistance to women, prompting sharp rebuttals from BJP’s Tamilisai Soundararajan.
In a significant welfare push, Stalin’s administration transferred Rs 1.31 crore to 1.31 crore women via the Kalaignar scheme. The package includes Rs 3,000 advance for three months and Rs 2,000 summer bonus, all credited Friday.
Addressing supporters, Stalin reiterated his unyielding stance on rights distribution. He promised doubling monthly aid to Rs 2,000 under the evolved Dravidian Model, framing it as a heartfelt commitment despite political hurdles.
The CM anticipates robust backing from women to retain power, accusing rivals of using elections as an excuse to stall benefits.
BJP’s Soundararajan dismissed these claims, asserting no central government blockade exists. She accused DMK of announcing schemes pre-election but delaying payouts for years, only accelerating now for votes.
Taking aim at TASMAC’s liquor monopoly, she highlighted revenue gains at the cost of family distress. Soundararajan contrasted this with PM Modi’s Mudra scheme, which has empowered millions in Tamil Nadu with instant loans for businesses, particularly aiding women vendors.
Digital India initiatives further bolster self-dependence, she argued, positioning BJP’s approach as superior to DMK’s ‘populist’ giveaways.
As polls near, this exchange reveals contrasting visions: DMK’s direct cash transfers versus BJP’s entrepreneurship focus, with gender empowerment at the core.
