Special Village Assembly Highlights Clean India Mission Progress

In a focused Gram Sabha held in Majigam, Chikhli block of Gujarat, Union Water Resources Minister CR Patil reviewed the milestones achieved under the Swachh Bharat Mission and the new "Swachhata Hi Seva 2026" programme. The minister stressed that sanitation must evolve from a single‑day event into a sustained, community‑owned responsibility.

Patil referenced Mahatma Gandhi’s conviction that a clean nation is essential for true freedom and applauded the consistent policy thrusts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. He highlighted that the 2026 Solid Waste Management Rules introduce a four‑tier waste segregation system, encouraging villages to separate biodegradable, recyclable, hazardous and residual waste at source.

During the session, sanitation workers received commendations for their dedication, and officials discussed the Digital Swachh Seva Ankalan – an annual self‑assessment tool that empowers gram panchayats to gauge sanitation performance and integrate corrective actions into the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).

The meeting also identified major waste generators, outlined a registration mechanism for them, and explored the deployment of ODF‑Plus model villages that showcase exemplary waste‑free practices.
