Special Intensive Revision Removes Nearly 45 Lakhs from Andhra Voter List

In a major cleanup effort, the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has led to the removal of close to 45 lakh names from Andhra Pradesh’s provisional electoral roll. The deletion tally comprises 22.30 lakh voters marked as permanently relocated or untraceable, 15.22 lakh entries of deceased individuals, and 7.37 lakh duplicate registrations detected at multiple polling stations.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vivek Yadav reported that return forms were gathered from 3.71 crore voters, covering 89.22 percent of the state’s electorate. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) indicated that approximately 4.49 lakh voters either could not be found, had moved to other states or Union Territories, did not exist, missed the 24 July filing deadline, or simply opted out of registration.

The SIR exercise spanned from 15 June to 24 July across all 28 districts of Andhra Pradesh. By the deadline, 3,71,38,182 of the 4,16,27,694 eligible voters had submitted their forms, reflecting robust participation. A claim and objection window from 31 July to 30 August enables genuine voters to submit Form‑6 and the prescribed declaration for reinstatement. Duplicate entries will be retained at a single polling location only.

A draft of the final voter list for all 175 assembly constituencies was released on 31 July. Booth‑wise exclusion lists—including absent, migrated, deceased and duplicate voters—are displayed at district electoral offices, gram panchayat and municipal offices, as well as at polling stations, and are also posted on the CEO’s website and the District Election Officers’ portals. Claims and objections can be lodged until 30 August, with resolutions scheduled by 28 September. The final consolidated voter list is expected to be published on 3 October.

The successful conclusion of the SIR phase is credited to the coordinated efforts of district election officers, 175 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 1,079 Assistant Registration Officers (AEROs), 4,650 BLO supervisors and more than 46,397 BLOs stationed at polling centers. Recognised political parties also contributed actively, appointing 1,27,868 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) compared with the initial 68,868 BLAs at the start of the revision.
