Special Garland of Cannabis Leaves Highlights Shiv’s Natural Form

In keeping with the symbolism of the monsoon season, the temple authorities decorated Baba Mahakal with a unique garland crafted from fresh cannabis leaves and a necklace of green vine leaves. The choice of green reflects Lord Shiva’s association with wilderness, fertility and the vibrant energy of the season.

After the priests performed a water and five‑nectar abhishek, the green adornments were placed on the deity, followed by the sacred ash aarti. The ritual was accompanied by Vedic chants, the ringing of conches and a chorus of devotees chanting “Jai Shri Mahakal.”

Witnesses described the sight as otherworldly, noting that the combination of ash smoke and verdant foliage created a striking visual contrast that highlighted Shiva’s primal, natural aspect.
