Special Courts in Ranchi to Hear All Statewide NIA Matters

The judicial landscape in Ranchi has been reshaped as two extra special courts are now tasked with hearing every case referred by the National Investigation Agency across Jharkhand. Acting on a directive from the Judicial Commissioner’s office, the benches of Additional Judicial Commissioner‑17 Sanjeev Zha and Additional Judicial Commissioner‑20 Arvind Kumar II will exclusively handle NIA investigations.

This arrangement follows a September 16 letter from the Jharkhand High Court and a September 7 communication from the NIA’s legal chief, and it was cemented by a central government notification issued on July 16, 2026. The courts’ jurisdiction spans the whole state, meaning that offenses ranging from terrorism to major organized crime linked to the NIA can now be tried in these dedicated forums. The order has been forwarded to the Ranchi Civil Court registrar, the NIA’s public prosecutor, the Ranchi District Bar Association and other relevant bodies.
