Special Bus Fleets Boost Travel to Tamil Nadu Festivals, October 15‑17
In anticipation of the Ayudha Puja holidays, transport authorities expanded capacity beyond ordinary schedules. Out of the 9,571 services provided, 6,573 were regular daily runs while 2,998 were classified as special. The special category comprised 2,528 buses from the state transport corporation and 470 private operators, all positioned to accommodate the festival crowd.
Key boarding points included the Kilambakkam ‘Kaligarn Cemetery’ hub, Koyambedu’s ‘Purchi Thalaivar MGR’ terminal, and Madhavaram’s new facility. Temporary stands erected in CMD Climate Park and Marambakkam further eased boarding pressures. The incremental addition of special buses each day helped handle the steep rise in demand, with the third day seeing the highest number of extra trips.
