Speaker Halts Lok Sabha Amid Raucous Demonstrations
New Delhi – The opening day of the monsoon session turned chaotic when opposition benches entered the well and began a barrage of slogans. Speaker Om Birla commenced the meeting with a tribute to former parliamentarians, but the atmosphere soon deteriorated. He appealed repeatedly for decorum, reminding members that democracy’s supreme stage is the Parliament and that each participant deserves a chance to speak. The opposition’s loud protest continued unabated, leading the Speaker to declare a suspension of the Lok Sabha’s business until the afternoon. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited all legislators to attend with enthusiasm, stressing that a positive parliamentary spirit is essential for achieving the country's objectives.
