Space Manufacturing and Ocean Research Collaboration Proposed for Odisha

The Delhi conference featured a focused discussion on linking Odisha’s space capabilities with its oceanic resources. Dr. Jitendra Singh and Minister Krishna Chandra Patra examined the potential for a public‑private partnership (PPP) model to establish a space‑research and manufacturing hub in the state. The proposed center would integrate ISRO’s expertise with local universities and research institutions to develop satellite components, micro‑gravity experiments and manufacturing processes tailored to maritime applications.

Key agenda items included the creation of an Ocean‑Space Innovation Lab that would combine earth‑science data from satellite observations with marine biotechnology research. This interdisciplinary approach aims to improve coastal monitoring, fisheries management and climate resilience. The partners also discussed expanding the Odisha Marine Biotechnology Research and Innovation Corridor (OMBRIC) to include space‑derived data streams, thereby enriching the scientific output of institutions such as IIT Bhubaneswar and IISER Berhampur.

Both parties emphasized that linking space technology with ocean research could open new avenues for high‑value manufacturing, job creation and scientific breakthroughs, positioning Odisha as a model for integrated coastal‑space development in India.
