From socialist roots to temple rallies: SP’s new political playbook

Recent initiatives include the construction of a Kedareswar temple modeled after Kedarnath, a poster outside the party office reading "Sanatan is Socialism," and events dedicated to Lord Parshuram aimed at courting the Brahmin community. These steps reflect a conscious effort to embed Hindu cultural symbols within the party’s identity.

Analysts note that this evolution mirrors a broader trend in Uttar Pradesh politics where religious sentiment has become a pivotal battleground. By adopting a softer, more inclusive form of Hindutva, the SP is attempting to claim space within the same ideological arena dominated by the BJP.
