South East Central Railway Bribery Scandal Leads to CBI Arrests

New Delhi, August 15 – The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a senior official of the South East Central Railway (SECR) on charges of accepting a bribe. The accused, a Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers, was stationed in Bilaspur and is accused of demanding ₹2 lakh to process a pending bill.

The complaint was filed on August 13. Negotiations resulted in an agreement for an initial payment of ₹1 lakh, with the first ₹50,000 handed over in cash through a middleman who was also taken into custody.

Following the arrest, CBI teams raided the officer’s residential and office locations in Raipur and Bilaspur, seizing cash and jewellery valued at approximately ₹77 lakh and ₹14 lakh respectively. The engineer and the intermediary appeared before a competent court on August 14 and were ordered to remain in police custody for four days. The investigation continues, and further legal action is anticipated.
