Tension gripped Bahadurgarh in Sonipat late last night as Haryana STF clashed with five hardened criminals in a bid to dismantle a kidnapping racket. The midnight showdown left two gang members injured from police bullets, with all five now in custody following a Rs 5 crore extortion plot.
Intelligence tipped off the STF about the kidnappers’ movements near Mehandipur village after they collected the hefty ransom for BDM College owner’s son, Hunarjeet. As the team moved to intercept the Bolero at 2 AM, the suspects unleashed a barrage of gunfire. STF constables responded decisively, striking Chitranjan alias Manjeet and Vinny, while capturing the other trio on the spot.
The ordeal began 20 days earlier when Hunarjeet was snatched from outside a village store on March 4. Insider betrayal came to light with Manish, a veterinary college staffer from the family, reportedly sharing the child’s whereabouts. The abduction was carried out swiftly by Scorpio-riding assailants.
Family complied with demands, delivering the cash at Rohtak’s IMT canal bridge. The boy was freed soon after at a remote location. Police seized two pistols, four spent shells, and the getaway vehicle. The wounded were admitted to Sonipat Civil Hospital, and Murthal police launched a thorough probe.
Ongoing questioning of the arrested could expose more accomplices in this brazen operation. The successful raid highlights effective police intelligence and rapid response, restoring faith in law enforcement amid rising kidnapping threats in the region.
