The tank, which fills automatically during three daily cycles – 7:00‑8:30 a.m., 12:00‑1:00 p.m., and 5:00‑6:00 p.m. – powers the distribution network without reliance on grid electricity.

The technology has not only ensured a steady flow of purified water but also created a permanent caretaker position for a village youth, providing a modest but stable income. Additional labor opportunities arose during the construction phase, as locals dug trenches, laid pipelines, and installed the overhead tanks.

Women like Manoj’s wife noted that the removal of manual water hauling has allowed them to focus on income‑generating activities and child care. “We no longer have to wait in line for hours,” she explained. “The water comes to our home, and we can use that time for other work.”

The success of the solar tank in Kuiya is being monitored as a case study for scaling similar off‑grid solutions across other water‑scarce districts in the state, aligning with the central government’s commitment to deliver safe drinking water to every rural household by 2024.
