Six Proposed Greenfield Airports and One Helicopter Hub Under Review in Assam
The Assam government has placed six greenfield airport projects—Silchar, Manas, Umarangso, Majuli, Difu and Charaidev—under close scrutiny, alongside a helipad proposal for Haflong. In a joint session with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma outlined the preparatory work completed for the Silchar site and appealed for swift approval to begin construction.
Pre‑feasibility studies for the remaining airports are being fast‑tracked to transition these plans from paper to ground. The proposed Haflong helipad aims to enhance aerial connectivity in the interior districts, complementing the larger airport network.
Officials from both the state and central governments, including Civil Aviation Secretary Sameer Kumar Sinha and senior Assam officials, were present to monitor progress. The collective effort reflects Assam’s ambition to reinforce its logistics framework, improve accessibility to remote regions, and establish the state as a pivotal air transport hub for Northeast India.
